I feel so old… April 28th, 2008 by Kylene. Filed in Portraits.

I don’t usually say that, but this weekend I photographed a prom group…and I felt like the old, goofy, dorky photographer. You kind of have to act dorky to get high schoolers to loosen up, so at my own expense I think we got some great shots! Our great friends, Bob and Gail Knight, had their oldest son Tim going to prom and wanted me to take some fun shots of him and his friends. We went up to their brand new game room to stage a poker game and jump on the pool table! I heard they had a great time – I think next year I want to go “chaperone” so I can get dressed up.

I love the game room images … how fun!
Those are so cute, Kylene! They will always treasure those. The few pictures I have of me from prom are just terrible, so I am jealous!
I’m coming to Hawaii! April 22nd, 2008 by Kylene. Filed in Weddings.

On the off chance that someone in Hawaii still needs a wedding photographer, I will be there May 5-14 and would be interested in shooting while I’m out there! I’m staying on Oahu, so if your wedding is there then consider it free airfare, but would be willing to travel to any other island. Let me know! We could also do a trash the dress session if you want to get back in to your wedding dress!
I’ve been busy working on wedding albums and wanted to post my favorite layouts from Jenn and Chuck’s destination wedding in North Carolina last October. The event took place at the beautiful Lake Eden Lodge in Black Mountain, NC. The people at Lake Eden couldn’t have been more accommodating while we were there. Ryan and I got to stay in their Studio Cabin for 2 nights while we worked, it was like a mini vacation! Usually I’m finished with an album much sooner, but it took Jenn awhile to decide what size she wanted. I think it was worth the wait though! Let me know which ones you like best!

We photographed their rehearsal dinner the night before at this super cool barn on Lake Eden’s property, bonfire followed:

Love love LOVE the window at the main house. It’s perfect for the “dress shot”:

Jenn & Chuck sent me this poem they wanted to incorporate, I think I found the perfect spot! :

This might be my favorite layout…..ever! :

Chuck was a fairly reserved guy, UNTIL you started talking about HIS wedding cake. He picked out every aspect of the cake, and refused to go get dressed until the cake arrived. (the cake was an hour or so late, but Chuck was patient!) I just thought it was the cutest thing, not to mention a really pretty cake! You did good Chuck! :

Love, LOVE, LOVE the layout . . . if only the rest of the world could see things through your glasses!
Awesome Job, Kylene! I am envious of the layout. You’ve done it… simplicity with style featuring only the best images. Have fun in Hawaii……….
I can’t wait for you to come to Hawaii! Don’t worry about booking any weddings while you’re here…you’ll be to busy taking pictures of me! love you! I will see you soon!
Love this layout!
Hey, novice question for you…. Once you’ve made your layouts, what company do you use to print/bind them? I haven’t found anyone yet that allows uploading of fully custom layouts (just the “insert picture here!” ones). Any recs would be fabulous.
My first 5K…maybe my last! April 13th, 2008 by Kylene. Filed in Personal.

Well, for any of you who know me, I am NOT a runner. Never have been, for various reasons including asthma, no arches in my feet, damaged heels, no tolerance for heat. etc. I was always a swimmer! Several months before we got married Ryan and I started a rigorous workout routine and started spending time on the treadmill. He quickly started to enjoy running and made a goal to run the Springtime Tallahassee 10K on March 29, which he completed a couple weeks ago! 6.2 miles seemed like an eternity to me, but when we talked about a 5K that seemed a little less daunting, even for someone who hated running as much as I do. But I figured it would be months before another organized run would be going on – I was so wrong! These things seem to happen every weekend! So with a weeks notice I agreed to do the Palace Saloon’s 5K, which took place yesterday morning. I didn’t even know what my legs were capable of since I’d never attempted to run that far in my life! We started off slow and despite wanting to stop before the first 1/4 mile was done we kept going to about 3/4 of a mile.
I was disappointed, I had hoped the adrenaline of all those people would make me want to go further. But Ryan stayed with me and after a couple minutes to catch my breath he’d encourage me to start running a little bit – he’d pick out a spot up ahead for me to reach and I couldn’t stop until we got there. It felt good once we passed the one miler marker, the second one felt even better but my ankles were killing me! All I could think of were friends that had competed in the Ironman competetion and that I was such a wimp! Eventually we could see the Saloon and finished strong on the downhill stretch. Such a dramatic story for a little 3 mile run, but for me this was a HUGE accomplishment! We finished in just under 44 minutes – although Ryan could have finished a lot sooner he stuck with me so I wouldn’t quit. We had a few victory beers and a crawfish Po’boy to celebrate, and then went home for a well deserved nap. I doubt this will be my last race, but hopefully it will start to get easier!

Haha look at how red my face is!

It was a pleasure to be there by your side at every step. I feel this is a start of a trend. I love you very much!
Way to go girl! Let me know when you want to run again so I can join ya! Infact, if you’d be up for the Minnie Marathon on May 4th …. I’ll be running a 10K.
I am oh so very proud of you sissy! Congratulations! Let’s run something or swim something while you’re here in Hawaii!
Congrats! I’m so happy for you! This was a big deal, and I understand as a fellow swimmer! Good luck for the future ones!
wow! awesome job!
H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S! I ran my first 5k on Turkey Day last year . . . . let’s just say I haven’t run since! Congrats =)
Congrats!!!! The first race is always an “experience”!!
awesome!i would never run that far!
I’m PROUD of you. Way to Go ! Isn’t it amazing what we can do if given the right encouragement, and a running mate? jW
How inspiring! you rock… I have been trying to get into running and I can proudly say that now I can run 1.5 without stoping at all BUT no further than that! I am trying to hard to make myself a runner because it burns so many calories in a small amount of time that walking really cant do, plus it will shape my legs but dang its sooo hard!!!!

Haha! I love you Kylene!
