Take me down to Chinatown | Singapore November 23rd, 2009 by Kylene. Filed in Personal.

It’s Monday evening here in Singapore and we’re getting ready to head to dinner. But I wanted to share a few pictures of our last couple of days! I also wanted to share some interesting things I’ve discovered while we’ve been here:
~It’s a very energy efficient country (energy is expensive because it comes from nearby Malaysia), so there’s lots of neat ways that they conserve:
~All the outlets have a switch you have to turn on for the outlet to work.
~All the appliances have a switch on the wall you have to turn on to use it (microwave, oven, etc.) so it’s not drawing energy constantly.
~Each room has it’s own air conditioning unit so you only cool the room that you’re sitting in. (they’re installed really nicely, up high on the walls and cool the room super fast!)
~Each bathroom has it’s own water heater with a switch. So you just switch it on 15 minutes before you’re ready to shower and turn it off the rest of the day.
~Taking a taxi around town is a super safe and clean way to travel.
~The funniest thing is taking a taxi back to where we’re staying – the driver doesn’t usually know the road, but if you tell them about the restaurant on the corner they know exactly where to go! (Boon Tong Kee, famous for their chicken and rice, we’re going there tonight!)
Here’s a few pictures from our adventure in Chinatown! We found a lot of neat things, most of which will be in Rylie’s stocking this year. ![]()

Who doesn’t love Pork Floss?

There’s lots of cool architecture, the country is super modern! I loved this funky bridge, it looks like a blowup toy!

Today we went to the famous Raffles Hotel and had their legendary “Singapore Sling”!

We had our drinks at the Long Bar. It reminded me of something from an African safari…

Yum, pork floss!! .. I’m kidding, hope you know that
LOL
